New Leadership, Enduring Mission
As Appalachia Service Project celebrates our 42nd life-changing summer of making homes warmer, safer, and drier for Appalachian families in need, we are committed to a mission that will never change. But some things do change, and we're in a time of transition as we search for a new President and CEO.
For the past eight years, Susan Crow called ASP home while serving as our CEO. Recently, Susan accepted a position in Birmingham, Alabama, as executive director of an organization that serves people with disabilities, helping them find meaningful long-term employment. Since Susan’s family lives in the Birmingham area, she was thrilled to have the opportunity to be closer to them. While we celebrate her new opportunity, we will also miss her!
But Susan has left ASP in excellent shape. During this transition from one season of leadership to the next, ASP remains thoroughly capable of sustaining its momentum and is fully empowered to serve families and volunteers with excellence. The Board of Trustees has asked Michael Clark, our Chief Programs Officer, to serve as Interim CEO during the transition, and Michael and the rest of our Executive Management Team – along with our amazing staff and partners like you – will carry forward ASP’s vision.
We are now seeking candidates for the CEO position – an inspirational leader of mature faith to guide and strengthen our ministry as we work to say yes to even more families in Central Appalachia. The incoming President will champion the ASP mission, communicate its story, recruit volunteers, generate support and position ASP as a regional and national resource in youth ministry and volunteer-based home repair.
The President & CEO will manage a four-member Executive Management Team, and work with a 16-member Board of Trustees on strategic planning to guide program implementation and evaluation. The emphasis for executive leadership will be building strategic external relationships, volunteer recruitment, and the cultivation of financial support among churches, donors, foundations, and institutions. The CEO will model servant leadership, motivate teamwork, and be comfortable travelling, speaking, and communicating personal faith.
Please prayerfully consider whether you or someone in your community may be just who we need to take ASP to the next level as we work to eradicate substandard housing in Central Appalachia and equip and inspire lives of Christian service.
