Apply for Summer Staff
Thank you for your interest in 2012 ASP Summer Staff! Each summer staff position has separate application instructions. The deadline for New Staff and Early Hire applicants is December 1, 2011. The deadline for all other returning applicants is January 1, 2012. Please read the job descriptions and application instructions below before submitting your application.
New Staff:
Job Description: New Staff members are individuals who have not worked on ASP summer staff before. Applicants are not required to have volunteered with ASP before, nor have any previous construction experience. During the summer, staff members will work long hours doing meaningful and life changing work, including monitoring construction for 1-3 projects per week, taking part in planning and executing spiritual evening gatherings, helping to plan direction of construction projects, and completing the duties of one position: operations coordinator, finance coordinator, or volunteer coordinator.
Application Instructions:
- Before you begin, you will need your driver’s license and your 2012 calendar
- New Staff applicants are required to submit a professional resume. Your resume needs to be typed and no more than 2 pages (front & back) and should include more than just ASP-related experiences
- New Staff applicants are required to submit the names and e-mail address for 2 references. One of these references must be a supervisor, professor or teacher.
- If you have completed ASP’s Staffer-In-Training Program, you only need to submit information for one reference.
- Click on “Start My Application” and then read throughout the job description. When you are ready to submit your résumé, you will be asked to create a user name and password which you can use to access and update your application at any time.
- Please “Skip” the Cover Letter and Skills Profile sections of the application
- The application process will take approximately 1 hour to complete. ASP uses a profile assessment to measure summer staff applicant skills and behavior traits. You will need a calculator to complete the assessment. Please answer questions honestly and don’t worry about having the “correct” answer. We are looking for many different qualities in Summer Staff, so while we encourage you to do your best, please do not worry about getting questions wrong.
ASP Admin will review all applications after the December 1 deadline. Once applications have been reviewed, we will extend invitations to those applicants that we would like to see and interview in person at a Staff Applicant Weekend (SAW). All applicants will be notified by December 16 whether or not they will receive an invitation to a SAW. Attendance at SAW is mandatory for all New Staff applicants who receive an invitation. New Staff applicants who are unable to attend a SAW may serve as a Staffer-In-Training (SIT) during ASP’s Adult Program, at which point they will receive an interview with ASP representatives. More information about the Staffer-In-Training program can be found below. ASP will not conduct phone or Skype interviews for any New Staff applicants.

Returning Staff:
Job Description: Returning Staff are experienced staff members with at least one year of summer staff experience. Returning Staff will serve either as a member of the center staff or as a Center Director. Applicants will be able to choose on their application for which positions they would like to be considered by Admin. Those who serve as a member of the center staff will assist and support the Center Director during the summer in making decisions and teaching New Staff, as well as monitoring construction for 1-3 projects per week, helping to plan direction of construction projects, planning and executing spiritual evening gatherings, and completing the duties of one position: operations coordinator, finance coordinator, or volunteer coordinator. Those who serve as Center Directors are ultimately responsible for the operation of one summer center during the summer, including project selection, repair plans, managing budgets, managing and evaluating performance of their other staff members, and providing a positive volunteer experience through meaningful and spiritual programming.
Application Instructions:
- Before you begin, you will need your driver’s license and your 2012 calendar
- Returning Staff applicants are required to submit a professional resume and cover letter.
- Click on “Start My Application” and then read throughout the job description. When you are ready to submit your résumé, you will be asked to create a user name and password which you can use to access and update your application at any time.
- Please copy and paste your cover letter into the Cover Letter section of the application
- Please “Skip” the Skills Profile section of the application
- The application process will take approximately 1 hour to complete. ASP uses a profile assessment to measure summer staff applicant skills and behavior traits. You will need a calculator to complete the assessment. Please answer questions honestly and don’t worry about having the “correct” answer. All Returning Staff applicants are required to take the Profiles assessment again.
- All Returning Staff applicants will receive an invitation to a Staff Applicant Weekend (SAW). Attendance at SAW is mandatory for all Returning Staff applicants, unless they are out of the country. Click here for more information about SAW dates and activities.
- ASP offers an Early Hire program to all Returning Staff and Support Staff applicants. Those who would like to participate must have their application completed by midnight December 1, 2011. Admin will review those applications, conduct phone interviews, and offer positions between then and December 14, 2011. Anyone offered a position who wishes to accept will be asked to give a firm commitment to the summer by December 16, 2011. All Early Hire applicants who accept a position are still required to attend a SAW unless they are out of the country. Early Hire staff who attend a SAW will be asked to assist Admin with helping the weekend run smoothly. At this time we are not setting a limit as to how many applicants will be offered positions early; however, Admin reserves the right to defer any early hire applicant until SAW season, at which point they will receive full consideration for staff.
- Returning Staff applicants who do not wish to be considered for early hire must submit their application by January 1, 2012.
