About ASP: Where We Serve
Share

ASP works in Central Appalachia -- where Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia come together. We own three permanent Year-Round Centers where we run our Adult Program during the fall, winter, and spring. During our summer Youth Program, we rent schools and community centers in about 27 communities throughout the region. With your help, we plan to expand into 40 communities by 2013.

Sign up to volunteer or make a gift today to help us serve twice as many families and spread the ASP experience to twice as many volunteers each year.

In the region where we serve:

  • Poverty is more than double the national average
  • One in four lives below the poverty level -- 105,000 children, 195,000 adults, and 35,000 elderly
  • 62,500 homes are substandard
  • 19,000 homes lack adequate kitchens
  • 21,000 homes lack complete plumbing
  • Nearly half of the families have annual household incomes below $20,000
  • The need is so great, we are only able to help one in ten families who apply for help. The more people who volunteer, the more families we can help.
