You can volunteer year-round when we offer a flexible program geared toward adult and young adult volunteers. Volunteer groups decide their length of service (sign up for a weekend, a few days, a full week of home repair, or longer) and determine the level of programming they want to receive. You’ll stay in dormitory-style lodging in an ASP Center (with hearty meals, climate-controlled rooms and bunk beds), and enjoy cooler weather and beautiful scenery. ASP serves three communities year-round: Perry County, Kentucky; Lee County, Virginia; and Wyoming County, West Virginia.
ASP provides extensive study materials for groups to utilize in preparing for their time of service. Topics for study sessions include Appalachian history and culture, ASP's mission and values, and basic construction skills.
On September 1 each year, applications for service the following year are posted on ASP’s website. Non-summer groups are encouraged to apply at least 3 months in advance of their desired service dates. Please note that dates in September/October and March/April fill quickly, so apply early!
New for 2008 -- Specialty Weekends!
ASP is now offering Specialty Weekends to widen our range of volunteering opportunities. Each weekend will feature rewarding home repair opportunities as well as times of reflection led by special speakers. These weekends offer participants an opportunity to enjoy a weekend of working and worshipping together in the hills and hollers of Central Appalachia.
