ASP's Staffer-In-Training Program

ASP is very excited to continue a program that started during the 2005 summer for those who want to learn more about what it's like to be on summer staff. During the summer of 2008, ASP will provide a staffer-in-training (SIT) program to provide a limited number of potential staff members with a "preview" of the life of an ASP summer staffer. Each accepted SIT will spend as much as one full week at one of ASP's summer centers rotating through the various staff positions of a center, trying each one on for size. Individuals selected for this program will not be charged any volunteer fees for their time as a SIT. Individuals who participate in our SIT program do so voluntarily without pay and are responsible for getting themselves to and from the ASP center.

You should consider becoming a SIT this coming summer if:

  • You want to be on staff. Even if you are going to ASP as a volunteer with your youth group, you can still be a SIT on a different week.
  • You are interested in a staff position at ASP but aren't sure you are quite "ready." The SIT week provides a transition from the experience of ASP as a volunteer to the very different experience of ASP as a staff member.
  • You'd like the opportunity to give yourself a slight edge over other staff applicants.

Eligibility: To apply, you must have had at least one other volunteer experience with ASP (some exceptions may be possible). You must be at least 18 years old by May 2009 and have graduated from high school by Summer 2008. We want all of our SITs to be interested in and eligible to become full staff members the summer after their SIT week. If you have a question about whether you are eligible, give us a call.
