Constructed on land next to our main office headquarters in Johnson City, TN, the APPALACHIAN HIGHLANDS VOLUNTEER & TRAINING CENTER will serve as a gathering space for volunteers, staff, and the local community to enjoy fellowship, career development, spiritual growth, rest, and nourishment in a beautiful and spacious facility.
The Bible teaches us a valuable lesson regarding fellowship, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24). We are hopeful that all who come in contact with ASP in this gathering space will be transformed and feel God’s presence in a meaningful way and encourage one another to serve others with joy.
At this facility, we envision ministry taking place in several forms:
- Youth and adult volunteers engaging in home repair, new home construction and disaster recovery projects
- Students taking classroom learning about construction, plumbing, electrical work and engineering into the field with hands-on building projects to deepen their knowledge in their chosen careers
- Teambuilding among full-time and seasonal ASP staff members
- Servant leaders having the ability to “be the light” in the world for families living in substandard housing
