ASP Discovery Weekends

Spend a long weekend serving alongside fellow group leaders in the heart of Central Appalachia while learning about the region and ASP’s ministry. Spaces are limited, so make sure to reserve yours as soon as possible!

ASP Discovery Weekend Overview

ASP’s ministry brings volunteers and communities together in the heart of Central Appalachia, strengthening faith, deepening relationships, and spreading hope. Each year, more than 16,500 volunteers travel to our service area, turning passion into action and transforming the lives of the families we serve alongside.

Discovery Weekends bring adult leaders from new and prospective groups to one of ASP’s year-round facilities to experience ASP first-hand through repairing homes, learning about our rich 50 year history, and building relationships with fellow group leaders. The weekend includes lodging, food, materials, and programming. We want you to have the true ASP experience!

Arrival Day

3:00pm – 5:00pm: Arrival & Registration

5:00pm – 5:30pm: Welcome meeting & project orientation

6:00pm: Dinner

7:00pm: Home visits, free time

10:30pm: Quiet time

11pm: Lights out

Workdays

7am: Rise & Shine! Devotions, Breakfast, following by loading up for the workday.

8:45am – 4:00pm: Workday with lunch break at worksite

5:00pm – 6:00pm: Crew check-in for project updates, supply requests, etc.

6:00pm – 7:00pm: Dinner

7:00pm – 10:00pm: Center clean-up, Evening Gathering (EG), free time

11pm: Lights out

Departure Day

7:00am – 8:30am: Rise & shine! Breakfast, center clean-up

8:30am – 9:30am: Devotions, debrief, Q&A session.

9:30am: Departure. Travel safe!

7:00pm: Home visits, free time

10:30pm: Quiet time

11pm: Lights out

Who should attend the weekend?

If you’re coordinating your group’s first ASP trip or even just considering a trip, join us for a Discovery Weekend so that you can find out what we’re all about and determine if ASP is the right fit for your group!

What’s the investment?

The weekend is offered at no cost for up to 2 adult leaders per group.  Additional attendees are $95 per person. These funds will go directly towards to cost of meals and construction materials for the weekend. Any group attending will have the opportunity to recieve a discount for summer 2026, if you book your trip before leaving the weekend.

What’s included?

Everything an ASP trip includes–Prepared dinner and breakfast each day, brown bag lunch supplies, evening programming, and construction materials, as well as bunk-style lodging and indoor bathroom facilities.

When and where are the weekends hosted?

All weekends are hosted at our facility in Jonesville, VA. We are currently offering 1 fall trip in 2025, and will book a spring trip in early 2026 if demand dictates.  Specific dates are posted above.

Can I bring a friend?

Definitely! Each group is allocated two adult attendees, and additional participants are welcome to attend for a fee of $95/person to help cover weekend expenses.
