Help After Helene

Progress Update

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is hosting its first home dedication ceremony for families impacted by Hurricane Helene on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

“This event is a testament to what can be accomplished when communities come together,” said Melisa Winburn, President and CEO of ASP. “The homes we dedicate are not just buildings – they’re symbols of hope and stability for families who have endured unimaginable loss. We are deeply grateful for the many hands and hearts that made this progress possible. This event celebrates every family, partner, and volunteer who has contributed to this shared mission.”

Ani Boyd, East Tennessee Regional Director for ASP, added, “This celebration isn’t just about recognizing the incredible progress made, but also about affirming the strength and resilience of the people of Appalachia. We’re honored to continue walking alongside these families as they rebuild their lives.”

Chris Schroeder, Vice President of New Build and Disaster Recovery for ASP, emphasized the broader impact of these efforts: “Since Hurricane Helene, ASP has taken a posture that we’re calling Rapid Rebuild – and this celebration is a proof of what’s possible. Every home rebuilt represents a renewed foundation – not only for individual families but for the entire community. This work reflects the very heart of ASP’s mission. While we celebrate these accomplishments, we also recognize the work that lies ahead for long-term recovery and remain steadfast in our commitment to the region.”
